Restalyne®

If you feel as though your facial appearance is showing signs of aging or if you have unwanted scar or blemishes on your face, then a Restylane® injection may be the solution to your aesthetic woes. Patients typically arrange to have a Restylane facial injection to smooth out, fill in, and decrease facial creases or wrinkles. Restylane® is also used to plump and define the edges of the lips, fill in depressed acne scars, and fill in and reduce the depth of the nasolabial fold. Aside from acting as a facial filler, Restylane® may also be used on the backs of the hands to rejuvenate the skin there.
Those who would like a fuller, smoother, and younger appearance may consider Restylane® as a facial enhancement option. If you have any sort of facial scar or blemish, such as acne scars or wrinkles - that you would like to diminish or eliminate, then Restylane® may be the right option for you. This facial filler can also be used to give one fuller or more defined lips and to get rid of deep nasolabial folds (the line between the nose and the corner of your mouth).

Restylane® Facts

Restylane® injections originated in Europe in 1996 as a facial filler for ridding individuals of their unwanted blemishes. Restylane contains hyaluronic acid, a type of molecule present in all living organisms. When injected into the skin, it creates volume, resulting in a healthy and vital appearance. During a Restylane® injection, hyaluronic acid in the form of a crystal-clear gel is inserted under the skin. This process lifts the lip, wrinkle or fold, whatever facial feature necessitates restoration or rejuvenation. Once under the skin, Restylane® works together with the body's own hyaluronic acid to create volume.
Typically, a local anesthetic will be used during this simple procedure in order to numb the injection area. The whole process will take place in the doctor's office and will generally last 30 minutes or less.

The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risks. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.

Restylane® Recuperation and Healing

After a Restylane® injection, the patient is free to go home and resume normal daily activity. Side effects of this procedure may include some mild swelling. Using ice will help to decrease this. Most patients look normal with make-up within one hour. Occasionally, mild bruising may be seen or small dots may appear at the locations where the needles were inserted. Some patients may see small bumps of Restylane® in the injection site, as well. These may remain for up to several weeks or more after the procedure.

Restylane® and Other Options

Lips can also be enhanced with implants such as Softform® or Alloderm®. Radiesse® and collagen injections may also be used to augment the lips. Wrinkles can be treated with laser resurfacing, BOTOX®Cosmetic injection, or filler injections, such as fat.

Restylane® Insurance Guidelines

Since the use of facial fillers such as Restylane® injections are considered to be cosmetic procedures, most insurance companies are not responsible for the payment of these procedures. Please check with your provider prior to getting a Restylane® injection to learn more about your policy's coverage.
