Liposuction of the Neck
Many women and men are unhappy with areas of localized excess fat on their face. One of the most troublesome areas is the neck. Women and men develop the so-called "turkey neck" as they age. Excess skin begins to sag as muscles become weakened over time. Fortunately, there is a specialized liposuction of the neck procedure that can correct this problem.
At The Freeman Center for Plastic Surgery in the Woodlands we have spent the last 25 years studying the effects of aging on the face. Under the direction of experienced board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Freeman we can help you select the right liposuction of the neck procedure to help reach your appearance goals.
Liposuction of the Body Facts
Thanks to the latest advances in liposuction procedures, Liposuction of the Neck has never been safer and the results have never been as dramatic. Liposuction of the neck is an excellent way to reduce excess skin under the neck, tighten the muscles of the neck and give an overall improved facial contour.
The elasticity of your skin will need to be evaluated and your surgeon will determine exactly how much fat will be removed during the procedure. A small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through a tiny (almost invisible) incision in the area that is to be treated. The cannula connects to a vacuum pressure unit that will vacuum away your unwanted excess fat under the guidance of your surgeon. In most procedures, fluids are injected into the areas that are going to be treated to suspend the fat cells. Variations in liposuction procedures can take place either by injecting larger than normal amounts of fluid (a tumescent procedure) or by withholding the fluid altogether (a dry procedure).
When discussing your liposuction of the neck goals, your doctor will want to discuss your medical history with you in detail, especially your weight loss / gain history, and your plans for weight loss or gain in the future. You will additionally need to be ready to discuss any prior medical conditions, treatments, and surgeries you have had. All of these details will help your surgeon better tailor your liposuction of the neck procedure to you specifically.
Liposuction of the Neck Recuperation and Healing
Liposuction of the Neck is a relatively quick procedure and recovery is usually in the 3-5 day range. Patients should avoid exercise or strenuous activities for at least three weeks. Bruising and swelling in the areas targeted for liposuction can be expected. Patients can resume normal activities in about two weeks depending on the size of the treated area.
Liposuction of the Neck and Other Surgical Options
While a Liposuction of the Neck procedure alone has the potential to alter the profile of your face, it will not correct other plastic surgery concerns, such as drooping eyelids, deep wrinkles on the forehead, a nose that is not in proportion to the rest of your face and other facial concerns. Patients desiring more dramatic changes to the face may want to consider a Microfat Grafting (Chin Implant) and Laser Skin Resurfacing,Cosmetic Fillers, Liposuction of the Neck, Eyelid Surgery, Brow lift,or aFace lift procedure.
Liposuction of the Neck Insurance Guidelines
Liposuction of the Neck is considered to be a cosmetic procedure by many insurance companies, and as such, is not covered under the policy. If your insurance company considers this treatment to be cosmetic, you will be responsible for covering the cost in full. It is suggested that you check with your insurance company about their policies regarding cosmetic procedures.
