Laser FACIAL RESURFACING
Is your face beginning to show the signs of aging? As we age, our face loses that youthful, radiant look it once had in our early twenties. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear and become more pronounced with each passing year. Scarring from acne and minor skin deformities can give the appearance of deep crevices or holes on the surface of the face. Environmental damage from excess exposure of our face to the harmful ultraviolet light of the sun, air pollution, and harsh chemicals can severely damage sensitive skin. Years of neglecting our skin begins to take its toll on the delicate layers of the skin as brown patches, redness, irritation and brown spots begin to appear on our face.
At The Freeman Center for Plastic Surgery in the Woodlands we have spent the last 25 years studying the effects of aging on the face and have developed many advanced noninvasive techniques for slowing and even reversing the signs of aging of the face. Under the direction of experienced board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Freeman we can help you look years younger and erase some of the damage that time, genetics, and the environment have done utilizing the latest laser facial resurfacing procedures.
Facial Resurfacing Facts
As one of the leading plastic surgeons in The Woodlands, Dr. Freeman can improve the quality of your skin on the face utilizing the latest laser resurfacing techniques. Facial resurfacing is one of the most noninvasive and minor forms of facelift available. A laser is used to gently remove the surface layer of the skin. Almost anyone can benefit from a facial resurfacing procedure. Dr. Freeman will take into consideration your age, skin type, thickness, condition and texture. The goal is to replace the outer layer of the skin on the face with a new layer of skin. Once the old layer of skin has been removed, the new layer of skin will have a fresh collagen layer that will make the surface of the skin appear more youthful and clean.
Facial Resurfacing Procedure
Dr. Freeman will prepare you for laser resurfacing first by numbing the face with a local anesthetic in order to eliminate the minor pain associated with the application of the laser. In more severe cases requiring longer treatment, a general anesthesia may be necessary. Patients are asked to wear eye and hair protection to shield these areas of the body from being exposed to the powerful ray of light emitted by the laser. Patients can expect the procedure to last anywhere from one to two hours.
Facial Resurfacing Recuperation and Healing
After the procedure, the patient's skin will be inflamed and irritated. Some patients may experience blistering. Typically, patients will also experience some pain in the form of burning and itching, but these sensations can be easily controlled through the use of over the counter painkillers.
Patients will be dressed with bandages and ointment that should remain on the skin for several days after the procedure. The skin will need to be kept moist through the application of cream and/or ointments. Patients should also avoid sun exposure for a long period of time after the operation in order to protect the new skin.
Additional Options to Consider With Your Facial Resurfacing Procedure
Depending on the severity of facial deformities or other noticeable scarring on the surface of the face, other alternatives to laser resurfacing may be considered. Noninvasive procedures to consider include: Microfat Grafting, BOTOX®Cosmetic or more substantial facelift or modified facelift procedures.
