Microfat Grafts

As we age we are all subject to acquiring wrinkles. Years of prolonged exposure to the harmful effects of the sun accelerate the aging process and as a result our body begins to show the damage caused by ultraviolet light on our skin. Prolonged exposed areas of the body such as the face, arms and legs tend to suffer the most visible damage. Likewise patients with scarring from acne or other medical conditions can significantly reduce the appearance of scars using Microfat Grafts. While we cannot avoid getting wrinkles we can do something to cover and even eliminated them with new and modern medical procedures such as Microfat Grafts.

At The Freeman Center for Plastic Surgery in the Woodlands we have spent the last 25 years studying the effects of aging on the face and have developed many advanced noninvasive techniques such as Microfat Grafting for slowing and even reversing the signs of aging of the face. Under the direction of experienced board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Phillip Freeman we can help you look years younger and erase some of the damage that time, genetics, and the environment have done to your face utilizing the latest Microfat Grafting techniques.

Microfat Grafting Facts

Microfat grafting is a method of removing the appearance of facial wrinkles through the injection of excess fat which has been taken from other areas of the body such as the hips or thighs. The procedure is relatively low-impact and it will restore your youthful appearance of years past through one simple operation.

In a Microfat Grafting procedure, fat deposits are gently removed from one area of the body (typically the abdomen, thigh, or buttocks) and are reinserted through injections into the areas of the body that require contouring. The addition of these new fat deposits fills out areas that have lost their youthful luster and restores smoothness to wrinkled or scarred regions. The process is carried out in a slow and careful manner in order to ensure that the fat is properly accepted into the face and is exposed to an adequate blood source to ensure vitality.

Microfat Grafting Recuperation and Healing

A Microfat Grafting is a relatively mild and non-invasive procedure. Following one of these operations, swelling is common around the areas from which fat has been removed and in the areas where it has been reinserted. Ice and ibuprofen should help reduce these effects, and the swelling should disappear after a few weeks at most. While some patients require two treatment sessions for the procedure to be fully successful, further treatment sessions are almost never needed.

Good candidates are also those who are prepared to handle the after-effects of swelling and the monetary costs associated with the operation. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.

Microfat Grafting Other Cosmetic Options

While Microfat Grafting alone has the potential to reduce wrinkles, it cannot correct other facial concerns of the nose, eyes, forehead mouth, chin  and neck. Patients desiring more dramatic results may want to consider a chin augmentation (Chin Implant) and Laser Skin Resurfacing,Cosmetic Fillers, Liposuction of the Neck, Eyelid Surgery, Brow lift, or Face lift procedures.

Insurance Guidelines

Microfat Grafts are considered to be cosmetic procedures by many insurance companies, and as such, are not covered under the policy. If your insurance company considers this treatment to be cosmetic, you will be responsible for covering the cost in full. It is suggested that you check with your insurance company about their policies regarding cosmetic body enhancement.
