Breast augmentation

Many women with small or underdeveloped breasts at some point in their life will consider undergoing breast enlargement surgery. While any type of surgery can make a potential patient feel nervous and uneasy, understanding the details of a breast enlargement procedure can help alleviate your fears.
Patients who undergo breast enlargement surgery will typically not only receive larger and shapelier breasts, but many also experience a more positive self-image and greater self-confidence.

Breast Augmentation Facts

Compared to other, more invasive surgical procedures, a breast enlargement is actually a relatively quick, outpatient procedure that is conducted under general anesthesia. During the procedure, a small incision is made under the breast, around the nipple or under the arm. A saline implant is inserted through this small incision and is placed under the breast tissue and underlying muscle.

Available options for women wishing to increase or enhance their bust line include the type of implant, the shape of the implant, how far an implant projects and implant fill material. Factors that influence the size and shape of your implant include: your skins elasticity, your age, your job description and your long term expectations from your surgery.

Any surgical procedure brings with it a certain set of risks and these risks can vary from person to person. The specific risks facing any given person cannot be known fully until a consultation takes place. While major complications are unusual, there are occasional minor complications that can take place that have no affect on the outcome of breast implant surgery.

Breast Augmentation Recuperation and Healing

Once the procedure is complete, you will be sent home with an elastic bra that will help hold the breasts in the correct position during the healing process. Any initial discomfort is managed with oral medication. Just 7-12 days later, you can usually have your sutures removed. While full recovery will vary from patient to patient, aerobic activities can typically be resumed around three weeks following the procedure and light activities may be resumed sooner as tolerated.

Breast Augmentation and Other Surgical Options

If you not want to undergo a full breast enlargement procedure, another enhancement procedure to consider is a Mastopexy (breast lift). This procedure will lift and add shape to breasts that are saggy or small. A tummy tuck or full body liposuction may be other plastic surgery procedures that would enhance your new feminine profile.

Insurance Guidelines

Insurance will not cover a breast enlargement, as it is considered a cosmetic procedure. You will be responsible for covering the full payment. In the case of a breast reduction, your insurance may cover this procedure, if it is medically necessary.
