Liposuction for Men in Houston
Many men are unhappy with areas of localized excess fat on their body. Luckily, there are plastic surgery procedures, such as liposuction, that can help. At The Freeman Center for Plastic Surgery we can provide you with assistance if you have accumulated fat deposits in any of the following areas: - The male breasts
- The cheeks, jowls, neck, hips, and buttocks
- The upper arms, inner thighs or outer thighs
- Breast / chest area or inner knee
- The back, calves, and ankles
- The abdomen and waist
While liposuction of the male breast to remove excess fat deposits might be right for some men, others may have abnormally large mammary glands that require a procedure known as Gynecomastia.
Liposuction can be performed on multiple parts of the body during the same procedure and can also be combined with different plastic surgeries. While liposuction procedures can be used to help treat excess fat in the above areas, it is not recommended as an overall weight loss solution. There are alternative treatments you can discuss with the professionals at The Freeman Center for Plastic Surgery to address these concerns.
Liposuction For Men Facts
A small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through a tiny (almost invisible) incision in the area that is to be treated. The cannula connects to a vacuum pressure unit that will vacuum away your unwanted excess fat under the guidance of your surgeon.
In most procedures, fluids are injected into the areas that are going to be treated. Variations in liposuction procedures can take place either by injecting larger than normal amounts of fluid (a tumescent procedure) or by withholding the fluid altogether (a dry procedure).
When discussing your liposuction goals, your doctor will want to discuss your medical history with you in detail, especially your weight loss / gain history, and your plans for weight loss or gain in the future. You will additionally need to be ready to discuss any prior medical conditions, treatments, and surgeries you have had. All of these details will help your surgeon better tailor your liposuction procedure to you specifically.
Liposuction For Men Recuperation and Healing
Once your Liposuction surgery has been completed you will be required to wear a compression garment for several days to help your body keep its shape and speed recovery. Bruising and swelling in the areas targeted for liposuction can be expected. Small tubes to drain excess fluids during your recovery will be necessary during the recovery process. Recovery usually takes 7-10 days depending on the needs of the individual patients. Patients can resume normal activities in about 2-4 weeks depending on the size of the treated area.
Liposuction For Men And Other Surgical Options
While a Liposuction procedure alone has the potential to alter the profile, shape and size of your body, it will not correct other plastic surgery concerns of excess skin or oversized male breasts. Patients desiring more dramatic changes to the body and face may want to consider a Tummy Tuck, Microfat Grafting (Chin Implant) and Laser Skin Resurfacing,Cosmetic Fillers, Liposuction of the Neck, Eyelid Surgery, Brow lift, or a Face lift procedure.
Liposuction For Men Insurance Guidelines
Liposuction is considered to be a cosmetic procedure by many insurance companies, and as such, is not covered under the policy. If your insurance company considers this treatment to be cosmetic, you will be responsible for covering the cost in full. It is suggested that you check with your insurance company about their policies regarding cosmetic procedures.
