A small, hollow tube called a cannula is inserted through a tiny (almost invisible) incision in the area that is to be treated. The cannula connects to a vacuum pressure unit that will vacuum away your unwanted excess fat under the guidance of your surgeon.
In most procedures, fluids are injected into the areas that are going to be treated. Variations in liposuction procedures can take place either by injecting larger than normal amounts of fluid (a tumescent procedure) or by withholding the fluid altogether (a dry procedure).
When discussing your liposuction goals, your doctor will want to discuss your medical history with you in detail, especially your weight loss / gain history, and your plans for weight loss or gain in the future. You will additionally need to be ready to discuss any prior medical conditions, treatments, and surgeries you have had.
