The Woodlands Facial Resurfacing Surgeons
As people age, their faces begin to change. Wrinkles appear and the skin becomes loose and droopy. Facial resurfacing is one of the least invasive facial restructuring procedures currently available. This process can be used to remove minor wrinkles, age spots, sun-damaged skin, or scarring.
If you are interested in achieving a more uniform facial skin tone and appearance, then facial resurfacing may be the right option for you. Contact The Woodlands facial resurfacing surgeons at The Freeman Center for Aesthetic Surgery today at 281-210-3196 to discuss your personal aesthetic goals with one of our qualified professionals.
Procedure Description
Facial resurfacing is one of the most noninvasive and minor forms of face lift available. During this procedure, a laser is used to destroy and remove the epidermis of the area needing treatment. Once this skin has been killed, a new epidermal layer will begin to grow in its place. This fresh skin has new, taut collagen layers that will result in a more youthful look.
During the procedure, the doctor will numb the area to be treated with local anesthetic in order to eliminate the pain associated with application of the laser. In more extensive cases, the patient may be given general anesthesia. Patients are given eye and hair protection in order to shield these delicate body areas from the laser’s power. Typically, the entire process will last anywhere from half an hour to two hours.
Recuperation and Healing
After the procedure, patients’ skin will be inflamed and irritated. Some patients may experience blistering. Typically, patients will also experience some pain in the form of burning and itching, but these sensations can be easily controlled through the use of over the counter painkillers.
Patients will be dressed with bandages and ointment that should remain on the skin for several days after the procedure. The skin will need to be kept moist through the application of cream and/or ointments. Patients should also avoid sun exposure for a long period of time after the operation in order to protect the new skin.
Intended Result
Laser facial resurfacing should eliminate small to medium-sized wrinkles, age spots, acne scarring, and other relatively minor skin deformities. It may take anywhere from six months to one year for the skin to improve fully.
Other Options
Other alternatives to this procedure include microfat grafting, Botox, or more substantial face lifts. These procedures are better options to pursue if the patient is wishing to eliminate larger facial deformities.
Who is a candidate?
Candidates include anyone with minor skin deformities such as small wrinkles, scars, or sun or age spots.
