Specialized Services - Microdermabrasion
One of the latest advances in facial skin care is Microdermabrasion. In this skin care technique, the patient’s face is gently massaged with tiny silicon chips that are applied by a power assisted pump and then quickly suctioned off. The chips gently scrape the skin and achieve the following:
- Diminish fine lines and wrinkles
- Remove dry skin and dirt
- Reduce enlarged pores
The results from this treatment are immediately noticeable. With repeated treatment work, circulation to the face can be significantly improved in order to give it a healthier appearance. Microdermabrasion Options:
Those who wish to undergo microdermabrasion have a few treatment options.
Crystal Microdermabrasion
This is the most common type of microdermabrasion available to patients. During this procedure, crystals are blasted at the skin to abrade the surface, and then they along with the loose skin and dirt are then suctioned off the skin. The vacuum is constantly applied in order to isolate the working area, draw impurities to the skin’s surface, and collect the dead skin and used crystals. While this technique is the traditional method of microdermabrasion, it has decreased in popularity as less time-consuming and invasive procedures have been introduced.
Diamond Microdermabrasion
This is a newer form of microdermabrasion in which a diamond-tipped exfoliation device replaces the crystal slurry as the method of old skin removal. These exfoliation devices, otherwise known as microdermabrasion tips, come in various sizes and each is used for a different skin type. While the abrasion process is different from crystal microdermabrasion, the vacuum machine is still utilized for the same purpose.
Home Microdermabrasion
Home microdermabrasion systems have drastically increased in popularity in recent years. Users purchase creams and scrubs that contain the same crystals used in the traditional method. These are self-applied and the hands are used instead of the microdermabrasion tool in order to thoroughly exfoliate the skin with these applicants. As a bonus, many systems incorporate moisturizers so that the user can also rehydrate the face at the same time.
